Many people who come to Mundaka are under the impression that Mundaka is only for experienced surfers. Although this is true when the waves reach a certain size like 1 to 2 meters for example, anything smaller can be quite user friendly depending on the sand banks and tides. Since mundaka is a rivermouth that flows out into a big bay on smaller swells there are often different peaks from Mundaka to the beach in Laida. These waves can be perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers as they normally break a lot softer, slower and less fast than Mundakas main sandbar, which allow the beginner to intermediate surfer to learn the basic surfing skills that will help them improve. My advice to anyone who is,nt sure about surfing here or want to on their own. First, know how the tides and currents work before paddling out, and that goes for other surf spots to. Don,t be afraid to ask other surfers or locals advice on how to get in and out of the water and know your limits.
Stay safe,be stoked and happy surfing!
