I had a fantastic experience surfing in Mundaka with Mike as my coach. He’s not only an incredibly skilled surfer but also a great professional who knows how to adapt to your level and make you feel confident in the water. His passion for surfing is contagious, and his clear, encouraging guidance helped me improve quickly. This summer me, and my two kids 16 and 14 years old, Had 3 absolutely fabulous days with Mike. Just amazing, his engagement to adapt the lessons for our different skill levels. We have previously attended other surfs schools in Sweden and Spain but mostly these schools just say the basic stuff and then just lett you into the water to try your best. Mike is attentive and a real teacher with a great laugh. He constantly encourages and points to things you could do change/improve. If you are a beginner or a pro I bet Mike will find the right level for you.

Mundaka Mike was an excellent surf coach and dialed me into 2 beautiful sessions out in the ocean! I have been surfing for about 20 years at an intermediate level and wanted to find someone to help continue my progression in surfing and find some good waves while I was in the area.
Mike is not just a great dude, but he has a tight relationship with both the surfers in the lineup and people on the streets. He has gained the community’s respect and took me under his wing (or rather fin) to show me some new techniques and feel comfortable with the sometimes competitive vibes out in the water. I caught many waves under his guidance, including one of the longest of my life (felt like a 1 minute ride!).

If you’re planning a trip to the Basque Country and want to learn how to surf, there’s no better place than Mundaka and no better coach than Mike. Everything you’re looking for in surfing — you’ll find it there. The beach and conditions are excellent, and Mike’s approach, attitude, and knowledge are truly invaluable.
We visited several other spots along the coast, but almost everywhere I felt a sense of commercialization and a superficial attitude toward tourists — except in Mundaka. Mike generously shares his extensive knowledge and experience, and his connection to surfing and the town clearly shows that this is his way of life, not just a job.

Fantastic experience!

From total newbie to semi-pro in just two sessions – at least in my own mind! 😄

Mike made it all feel easy, fun, and kind of magical. I went from flopping around in the foam to
actually catching waves (and yelling “WOO!” a lot).

I surfed with Mike for a whole week, and I highly recommend him. I’ve had quite a few surfing instructors since I always try to find surf spots when I travel, and I think Mike is the best I’ve ever had.
He quickly identifies mistakes and, in some areas, gives you the space to figure things out on your own, which is essential because surfing isn’t a black-and-white sport—you can develop your own unique style.
Mike is definitely a great teacher. I’ve had some skilled surfers teach me, but they weren’t effective instructors. With Mike, you can tell he’s taught many people and is really good at it! Plus, he’s just a cool and positive guy who makes the experience fun.

Mike is a fantastic coach and surfer. He knows absolutely EVERYONE in town, chatting and joking with all the other locals. He´s been there almost 30 years, so you´ll be going with a local who speaks the language, knows the lineup, and can tell your about the tides and subtleties. Me and my friend are intermediate surfers and he set us up with everything we needed to have a great time – I´m confident the same would be true at any level, beginner to advanced. 10/10, highly recommend.
